What it is
Eosinophils are white blood cells that help fight parasites and take part in allergic reactions and asthma.
Why it matters
Their count is a useful clue to allergies, certain infections and inflammatory conditions.
What high values can mean
A higher count can reflect allergies, asthma, parasitic infection or some inflammatory or drug reactions.
What low values can mean
A lower count is common and usually not a concern on its own.
How to improve it
Eosinophils respond to underlying triggers; managing allergies, asthma or infection is what brings a raised count down.
Food & lifestyle
No food directly changes eosinophils, but identifying and avoiding allergens can reduce allergy-driven rises.
Preparing for the test
Part of a complete blood count (CBC) with differential; fasting is not required.
